He Speaks!!
UPDATED with video at the end
If you haven’t yet entered The Pretty Peacock giveaway, you only have a few days left!
Guess who is talking?
In about 5 days, Shane went from 0 to 20 words! He has said everything from “more,”
”dad,” “thanks,” “ball,” “go,” “walk,” “shoes,” “wait,” “yes,” “no,” “juice,” “pull,” “bug,” “nonnie” (what we call bedtime),”uh-oh,” “hot,” “car,” and “Jack,” to 2 word combos like “don’t touch,” and “bye dad.” Not all of these uses are spontaneous yet, although some are, but the fact that he is repeating EVERYTHING we say and it’s coming out really clearly is just totally amazing to us.
Ring-around-the-rosie:
This is a little video of Shane chatting it up. The sound isn’t working on my computer, but I think that’s a problem on my end…can anyone let me know if it’s working?

I’m so happy for you! I know you’ve been waiting for this day for so long! Congrats!
laurie-
that is AMAZING! really amazing.
so proud of sweet shanie!
xo
That’s great! Go Shane!
From one speech delayed mom to another, that is absolutely awesome!
That’s so awesome! Maybe he just felt like he couldn’t get a word in until now, so was biding his time and then just let it all spill out.
Can’t wait to see the video.
Can I just say that I love how you parent. I was watching some of your other videos, and the one where you were checking on the boys that were whispering when they were supposed to sleeping, and you are all calm and sensitive saying, “Hey Guys…is it time to play?” I just think you are so sweet and patient, and its a really awesome thing to see (well from what you can ’see’ from a blog
) I think I want to take parenting lessons from you, for the day when I may need them!
And congrats on shane! That is awesome!!
Yea Shane! Good for you Laurie in so many ways - nice job that you were patient enough to let him find his voice on his terms! There are lots of parts of his talking that sound like Julia - she only had 2 words (besides Mom and Dad) at 2 years old and in a few weeks she had tons.
Yea Shane!
YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so excited for him - and you guys!!
How amazingly fantastic!!!!
Yay Shanie! He was just saving it until he could really knock your socks off. Shane is such a precious boy and he’s just doing things in his own way. I’m so glad he finally let you in on his little secret.
OMG…He is growing up too quickly! Great Rosie pic of the kiddos. They are so adorable!!!
Hooray for Shane! We’ve been pulling for him. Go, Shane, go! Tell us all about it.
Laurie, that is awesome!!!! I’m so happy for Shane and for all of you. I know what a huge relief you must feel! I’m really, really happy to hear this. WTG, Shane!
Yeah Shane-Bug! Watch out Jack and Finley! You’re in trouble now!
awww look at him talkin’ up a storm!!! Awww, Laur - I’m so impressed by your guy! He’s totally rockin’ the english language! Pretty soon you are going to miss the days when he wasn’t talking at all because you’ll have three arguing all the time! haha
Sooooo happy for you guys..and Shane. Annslee had only 10 words at 3 yrs old and it was so hard to watch…glad he is on the way : )
Yay! for Shane, now the three of them can scream and argueing, and you probably wish one of them stay quiet, the picture of three kids is so sweet, love little Finley’s back side.
Way to go Shane - so cute, he obviously just had it all built-up in there and once he figured out or decided he was ready, the floodgates opened. Hope this is the beginning of tons of awesome progress!
Congratulations, Shane!!
And I totally agree with Tara Neal, that other video where you whispered to them was really touching to me, too. You will be my role model once I have kids, Laurie!
Shane-Bug is da man! Way to go, little buddy. Watch out Jack & The Fin.
Of course he is talking!! He’s a smart boy!! So cute and wow is all I can say!! I know this day has been a long time coming! Go Shanie, Go Shanie!
Way to go Shanie! I knew he had it in there and was just waiting for the right time! So cute hearing him talk.
K that makes me cry for you!!! How awesome!!
My 2nd was a late talker..I figured his older sister did all the talking for him. Once he started, he was never quiet. As an adult he is still a chatter box.
Congrats to Shane…
Same thing happened with my son at that age. We had him evaluated, and he went from no words to experiencing a full-blown verbal renaissance within a week. Now he won’t stop talking!
Oh my goodness!! Now that just makes me smile. How thrilling. Go Shane!
Go Shane Go!!!!
Yay Shane! Ethan and I watched that together and he said ‘ba ba ba ba Boom’ along with Shane at the end..so sweet!
Awesome news! Sweet Shaney-Bug is at SUCH a fun age! He is soooo sweet and his little cheeks just make you want to kiss them!
That’s great!
Everyone in their own sweet time, so happy to hear it’s Shane’s time now!
Yeah for Shanie! I am so happy for him! And hearing his little voice is just the cutest!
Yay!! It was so great to read this post. I know you guys are so proud of Shane. Loved the photos and the video.
Glad to hear it was just Shane taking his time and talking it when he was ready to. Remember his father did something very similar, just waited longer to talk. Give him a hug and kiss from me!
LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!!! You must be so relieved and so proud. He has such a cute little voice!
That’s wonderful.
Congrats to Shane!!! You guys must be so excited! I’m sure he’ll add the word “mine” to his repertoire very soon.
I’m so behind on my blog reading…what wonderful news & video! So proud for you guys…I know how stressful the wait can be for those precious first words!! Way to go Shane! Your pictures of Fin are cute! I especially like the ones that make the pictures look “old western style”…kinda faded with a twist. Very cool! Heather M.
Oh my gosh, Laurie, I’m so happy for you guys! I’m there too; I know what you were/are feeling. Lulu didn’t even walk till after her 2nd birthday, and coming up on 3 we have lots and lots of single words and imitation, but very few spontaneous multi-word combos.
Shane is fabulous! What a relief.
Oh Laur!! I am so happy that Shane has decided to let us all know what he is thinking. I know you guys are so happy to hear what he has to say. I bet before too long you are going to be writing about how he never stops talking!
I hope so!!! He is just such a pumpkin.
Kiss all your babies for me.
