I’ve gone NaBloPoMo strong for 21 days now, but today I’m going to direct you to my writings elsewhere…I am the honored Mama Blogger of the Month over at Mile High Mamas! No, it’s not named "Mile High" Mamas because we all like to cram in our minivans and toke the good stuff together. No;), it’s a Denver-based forum for mom bloggers that has tons of fun stuff, including giveaway contests, which is how we won our upcoming ski trip with that funny ‘Animal Abuse’ Halloween photo of our kids. Anyway, go take a look, but before you fall off your chair laughing hysterically at the first paragraph Amber so sweetly wrote about me, just know that in a former life, Travis and I did actually run 2 marathons (and at a pretty decent pace). Ok, fine, laugh away.
Today is a tough day here for me, and Travis is on-call so I’m flying solo to top it off. Last night, Fin slept from 8pm-10pm, got up to nurse, then slept until 1am. She was up off and on (about 4 times), with lots of patting, rocking, nursing, until 3am. Then she woke-up for good at 4:30am. Ugh…I keep thinking "ok, maybe this is just a phase, or her new teeth, or her ear infection, or…" but I’m starting to think she’s a little Jack in the making. Plus, my boobs are going to fall off from nursing her so darn much! She doesn’t seem to need much sleep despite being a VERY active baby. So much for "oh, we are so lucky we at least got 2 laid back babies!!" HA! Don’t get me wrong, I think I’m the luckiest girl in the world (married to Travis with 3 awesome kids), but I don’t think there’s going to be anything easy about my kids. And Shane-bug woke up feeling crappy today too; he’s super congested and kinda grumpy. He’s actually been such a happy little guy this past month with only very short grouchy periods when he’s overtired or hungry, so I think he might be feeling crummy too.
On a happy note, day 1 of my new diet / exercise plan went well! The bike trainer came out last night while we watched The Office, and Travis kept me honest…every time he’d hear me slow down, he’d call me out and harass me to downshift or speed up! And about Nicki’s aspartame comment and the very limited research suggesting it might encourage weight gain instead of loss over the long-run? I need to read up some more, but so far it’s not very compelling. Of course the media picked it up because if no-calorie sweeteners everyone has come to use turn out to cause the opposite effect of what’s intended, that would be big big news. As far as I’ve read so far (admittedly, I passed out before reading much of the study), the findings in rats have been extrapolated and stretched pretty far. Clearly, it hasn’t been studied enough, but the jury here is still out. In the meantime, I’d rather drink a diet coke than a regular soda any day. Of course, I’d NEVER drink a regular coke because of the astronomical amount of sugar, but that’s just me. But I’ll let you know if I find compelling evidence to cut-out diet coke or fresca altogether!
I’m so psyched about how many people are up for doing the Chuck the Chunk challenge with me and will participate in Weight Loss Wednesdays here! I think that’s the only reason the bike trainer came out last night, so thanks guys.

hey laur, posted this comment on your other entry, but had another thing to say:
I’d be in on this weight loss thing, if I weren’t preggo again. Anyway, have been losing some weight because of stress of residency and morning sickness. I will say that there have been studies on weight loss comparing people who drank diet soda to those who didn’t and those who didn’t loss significantly more weight. I don’t have the article off-hand, but look it up.
Also, new studies have come out showing that sleep deprivation makes you keep extra weight on, and obviously you can’t control that, so don’t beat yourself up too much. In fact I think the avg extra pounds was about what you are trying to tackle!
Good luck on your interview — let me know how it goes!
Oh, and I’m at the V.A. doing inpt psych right now. I’m definitely been down…. Have outrageous updates on gtown program I need to tell you about!
Sarah
Blah blah blah - I can’t hear you!!!! Well I can’t really talk since I’m living off Vitamin Water (which is not as bad as coke but still has the good stuff), I just can’t seem to wean to water. I’m going to keep trying though!!!
Good job on the bike and how cool that you have someone there who will keep you motivated. Tony is sooo not that personality.
Sorry about the hard day with the babes. Those all night nurse-a-thons are rough. Maybe it’s a growth spurt or a developmental spurt? My kids always did that craziness before learning new big skills.
Hi there. I think I found you through Lucy In the Sky with Diamonds’ blog. You probably already know this, but just in case not, I drink Diet Coke with Splenda. Is that any better than aspertame? I switched about a year or so ago and won’t ever go back. Hate the taste. We got it in Denver last June at Albertsons if I remember right. If you already knew this or can’t drink it for some reason, sorry, but I thought I’d put it out there anyway.
great interview!
my thought is that if your boobs fall off from so much nursing, that might solve the weight loss dilema right there
I have heard the whole diet coke debate. If it’s true, I’m pretty much screwed. You might as well pump that $hit directly into my veins the way I have been drinking it lately.
Cool post on the other site. Thought your younger sib or 2 might have been adopted, but not sure. Only have been reading right before you went into labor. Are there old posts about your parents’ decision to adopt, the process, etc.? Would love to read more. How old were you when all this happened? So cool!
I have heard the aspertame comment before, but what about carbonation - I understand it makes fat harder to digest. I’ll look at the research on that one and see what I find.
Sorry about the crmmy nights - I hear/taste/feel your pain.
that last picture of Finley smiling makes her look so “easy going”.
LOVE the pics as per usual. Good job on the working out! And, off point, is it just me or is The Office not up to snuff this year? I mean, this was my fave show the past three years and now I think we’re getting more laughs out of 30 Rock than The Office…
