Laurie has been immobile but wants to share the whole birth / labor experience as soon as she gets out of bed and feels like typing later today - trust me the story is pretty crazy, worth reading. We’re just so amazed and so in love with this little baby. She took to nursing and latched on instantly within 45 minutes of delivery, as soon as Laurie got out of the OR, and has not strayed far from the breastaurant in the last 24 hrs, wanting to be close to Laurie’s chest even when she is not feeding. Jackson and Shane, who are with their grandparents, met Finley last night and not surprisingly, Jack had kisses ready for his new sister. I (this is Travis) left Laur’s mom at the hospital last night for several hours so I could go home with the boys and get them to bed before returning to the hospital to spend the night with Laur and Finley. As for the name Finley, it was my grandmother’s middle name that had been passed down from my Scottish relatives. We still can’t believe we have a little girl and both Laurie and I have mistakenly called her a him several times as we are still getting used to the idea of having a daughter. We’re absolutely thrilled to have a daughter but really didn’t think this was a girl so we’re still sort of in shock. Based on most people’s guesses, especially while in Vietnam, as well as the old wives tales, we thought this was a boy, but Jaime’s Chinese Lunar gender predictor was right all along. Enjoy these days at the hospital with her- the craziness at home with begin soon enough. I’ll keep praying for Jax and Shane, that this trasition will be smooth and that all of you will just gel as a family and get into a routine very quickly.

Now that’s what I needed to perk my day up! She’s just beautiful, as is Laurie and I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the name.
As for referring to her as a boy, I so get that - I have referred to my poor Delaney as a kitty more than once (so used to having just the cats before she came along) and after spending two years anticipating adopting a boy, I still shock myself sometimes looking and realizing I’ve now got a GIRL. 2 1/2 months in and still wrapping my brain around it sometimes. So I get it - and when/if you are ever more well-rested, that’ll fade a bit!

You guys, she is gorgeous! Wow. I mean, we have three kids age four and under, and looking at her makes me baby hungry again! Her name is absolutely adorable. She’ll love being the only one growing up with that name. Congratulations again! Try and get some rest admist all the breastfeeding and older sibling adjustment. You in for Mr. Toad’s wild ride, but it is sure a ton of fun. I hope you have a good support system in place for after your family leaves.

Oh man, she is so beautiful. SO beautiful. That girl inherited two sets of beautiful genes. I absolutely love her name. LOVE! It suits her to a T, I think! I’m so relieved to hear that nursing is going so well. That is so terrific! Hope Laurie’s recovery is smooth and I’ve been thinking a LOT about Shane and Jackson and how they’ve (or really Laurie, to be honest) handled the separation. I hope it hasn’t been too hard!

congrats good family! it has been exciting watching your family expand so quickly.
laurie - while i know this is an exciting time, you’ll need to remember to take your own time to “mourn” the loss of your birth plan. it sounds odd to some people, but i think you’ll know what i mean. there have only been a couple of other people that i know with such passion and determination that you had, for the 100% natural birth plan. you were so “planful” and educated about your choice, that even with the excitement of adding your 3rd child there may be the times of frustration and sadness that comes with the realization that loss. take care of you.
from watching and reading your progress i, too, was shocked that you have a new daughter. i was sure it was a boy! (esp that heartrate at your last appt!) what a nice surprise to add a girl to the mix of boys!
congratulations again to all of you and we all look forward to hearing the rest of your story and seeing the big brothers with their new sis.
