OUCH!
**See UPDATE at bottom of post**
**Post written by Travis and dictated by Laurie**
So I’m really not all that grumpy. Exhausted would be a better word. Last night was SO LONG, and yet a 3rd night of PAINFUL contractions and no sleep has yielded no delivery yet. I can’t even believe it. We joked about it last night - how crazy would it be if we actually had to go to our midwife office appt. Monday morning at 10am!? Well, we’re getting ready for our appointment now. I’m still contracting. They were pretty well sustained last night, every 5-6 minutes, but it seems they still did not progress past that. This morning, I’m back to really intense, painful contractions every 7-8 minutes. I spoke to our doula a couple hours ago and she basically gave 2 reasons why my labor might be protracted like this. First, the baby might still not be in the right position. Second, it might be related to stress on my part. I have noticed I’ve been fighting labor on some level, but I’m making a conscious effort to relax during my contractions and welcome this baby. We’ll try and post an update this afternoon after we see the midwife.
OK, this is Travis without dictation (think Darth Vader when he kills the Emperor). Laurie is doing incredibly well considering she hasn’t really slept in 3 days. She is dealing with the pain and staying positive. The baby is still kicking like crazy so everything seems fine with he / she. With all this contracting, we’re thinking this baby is going to have quite the cone head when he or she finally enters the world. Anyway, we really appreciate all the positive comments. Hopefully today will be the day. Stay tuned.
**UPDATE**
Just got back from our appointment with our midwife, who happens to be awesome, and she gave us the good news that Laurie is 5cm dilated and 80% effaced, meaning everything is progressing, albeit on a longer timeline than we expected. The baby’s heart rate is fine and the midwife said she would be shocked if we don’t deliver today. She gave us the choice of going to the hospital now or waiting it out at home a little longer. We chose home so we’re trying to relax, eat, and drink a little before we go in later this afternoon or this evening. More silver lining, Laurie has lost 6 pounds since Friday.

Enough is enough, I can’t take it anymore!!!! Oy vey. Ok, so this really isn’t about me, I know, but how much of a trooper do you have to be!!? Surely it shouldn’t be this hard!!!? If you haven’t slept in 3 days - that *can’t* be good for you! (Any of you). While I totally admire your perseverance, part of me is crying out for you to end your pain and go and get some pain relief. Okay!?
Come on, little cone head- the world is waiting! Will be thinking about you guys all day and eagerly awaiting good news. It’s just gotta be today! Stay strong- you’re almost there! Thank you Travis for the update. Cone heads rule.
Hoping for a quick ending to all of this and that you meet Belly Baby very soon. Thoughts and prayers!
—just wanted to finish my comment, we’re on the edge of our seats waiting to hear BB has entered the world and all is well. You’re doing great!
OMG! I can’t believe belly baby is not out yet. I thought he/she would make the grand entry on Easter day. I can’t imagine the exhaustion you must be feeling. Hope it will happen soon. I am really excited to see who this little person is. Oh well, only on God’s time and not ours. Take care.
OK, I am with Jena–maybe all this contracting is actually doing something! I really hope things start moving for you and can only imagine how exhausted you are–but you are strong and I just can’t wait to hear the great news that baby has arrived! Constantly thinking of you and praying for you all!
Laurie- I know you run marathons- Girl you are running one now. This labor has been a marathon but you will cross the finish line. I am praying for you and I must admit- occasionally I break out into rhythmic breathing techniques just to help you out! You have to know you are way past the halfway point of this “run” the finish line is in sight and your prize will be so amazingly worth it. Keep it up girl, you can do this!

OKAY I can’t wait! hahaha I am SOOO excited. Yay Baby Good! Good Baby! Whoever you are, COME OUT NOW!!! hahhaa Laur you’re a TROOPER. This is like the longest labor EVER! And Trav, I meant to say in my last comment to try to suppress your natural tendencies to be an ass for the next 24 hours. Seriously, pushing a baby out is NO FUN. Anyway - I know you will be great
You kow I am kidding. I can’t WAIT! (did I say that already?!?!?) Note - take it easy on the ‘drinking’ part of the staying at home - it’s be SO funny if Laur were smashed through the whole thing - I think that still counts as ‘no drugs,’ RIGHT?!?! We love you guys! I am checking your blog like every 10 minutes today.
Yay! Great update! 5 cm–no wonder you are in pain! It has to be soon now!
Woohoo! Awesome update! I remember already having an epidural at 4 cm, I can’t imagine still being so calm and home at 5cm! You go girl! And wow… 6 pounds in a week!?! You will be shedding alot more here very soon!
Go Laurie! And Darth, did you actually mention her weight in that post? Really?
Can’t wait to hear you had a safe and healthy delivery! C’mon belly baby! Bloggerland is waiting for you!!

You are a champ. I would be drinking margaritas after my C-section at this point.
Kudos for sticking to your birth plan!!
In my small scale experiance the first labor/delivery is the always the longest. He/She has to pioneer the route out!!! Good luck and based upon what you are writing today it will be tomorrow in the early AM. March 24, 2008 is a good birthday.
5cm! Woohoo baby! I knew all that work had to be making major progress! I bet when you hit transition, you are going to go SO FAST! I’m glad your hospital is close by!!!! I predict you will have your baby in your arms no later than 9pm tonight.
You are so awesome Laurie! And don’t forget when you get all teary and start freaking out and feeling like you can’t handle it - that means transition!
I’m going to go light a candle for you, my friend!
yay!!!
5 cm dialated?! Holy cow Laurie, you’re already 1/2 way there! And the last 5 will go much faster than the first, I bet!

thinking i wonder has Laurie had her baby?’ so excited for you all. looking forward to reading the news, sending positive vibes across the world Lorraine (Ireland)
Hang on girl! That is if you haven’t delivered yet!
You are a woman of steel. I would have been screaming for pain meds.
Great tenacity Laurie! I am hoping that baby is well on his/her way. My sister in law is actually in labor at the moment too - how exciting for both of you. Can’t wait to hear about the arrival and conclusion of this “epic”!

While I know this is real life…and Laurie has been in labor literally for DAYS….i can’t help but feel like this is a week long cliff hanger on General Hospital!! I LOVE IT! lol Wishing you guys a healthy, relatively painfree delivery!! Good Vibes coming your way!
