That’s what Finley calls our new state of residence. And Shane calls the city “Milla-waukee.” We’re here, we made it! The car trip was ROUGH, to minimize it. If I were giving awards, it’d go something like this:
WORST Road Tripper EVER – screamed the last 3 hours of the drive, refused to nap, had to pee every few hours, tried to wake everyone else when they’d fall asleep…hands down a clean victory for Finley in this category!
Most Geography Questions Asked in 1 Sitting – Jack loved crossing state lines, seeing Iowa’s windmills, and thinking about our borders each time we’d enter a new state:
Biggest Cough Potato – we’d get to rest stops after HOURS of driving and movie time and Shane would say “no thanks” when asked if he wanted to get out and run around for a few minutes. He was in hog heaven strapped in his seat, eating junk food, and watching movies for 16 straight hours:
Cleanest Colon – 3 blowouts in 16hrs of driving. Amazing. The kid normally has a dirty diaper every other day, but he really stepped it up for me on this trip. Up the back, around the sides, on the new car seat…
But we finally made it to Milawaukee. Thank gosh. The house is freaking AMAZING. As in, we have NO business living here, amazing. It’s HUGE, the yard is incredible, there’s wildlife in our backyard, we have a hot tub, our deck alone is bigger than the entire outside space we used to have. The house has a bidet, for God sakes. The kids are OBSESSED with it. I’ll have to devote a separate post to my thoughts on the unsanitary nature of the bidet. Anyway, here are a few sneak peeks from my iphone since my Yiayia is awaiting some photos:)
More pics to come Yiayia, I promise!
—–edited post-hot tub—which I still can’t believe we have, btw. As Travis put it, it feels like we’re on a honeymoon with our 4 kids. So much to explore, and to get to come home each day (now that overnight call is a thing of the past!) to this house with a deck for BBQ’ing while the kids run and play in the yard, and then finish off the night in the hot tub, is just incredible.
This pic was from tonight with Nick and Hillary, Shane’s Godparents and 2 of our closest friends. They’re in Chicago, just 1.5hrs away!
I am SO behind on posts it’s ridiculous. Just wanted to get this one up since I family members are wondering if we survived the drive. We’re already missing Colorado and our friends there, especially Chris & Emilie (Fin has not stopped asking if you guys are coming to Milwaukee since you left our house in Denver after that sad goodbye!) and Kaakpema and Sara, but we’re really excited about being here and starting another chapter.

Welcome to the midwest! I’m super jealous. Wish I was there. Wanna trade spaces for awhile? That said the bidet is weird. I’d put up with a lot of ass washing for that yard though!!!! And grass! I miss grass. Glad you made it save and sound.
I don’t know if you read Michelle Au’s blog, but she has a bidet in her new house too and has put it to use. http://theunderweardrawer.blogspot.com/2011/03/like-it-was-made-to-do-just-that.html
Congrats on your move and surviving internship! Beautiful pics of the kids.
Glad you all survived!! The house looks amazing! Bidet is crazy, hot tub is AWESOME, but you failed to mention the phone in the bathroom. Congrats again!!

Sounds like that road trip was the perfect end to the “hectic” season of your lives. Hopefully this new season will be calmer and quieter. That is a beautiful house. I’m so happy for you guys!
Oh wow it is beautiful! Enjoy it!!!
Laurie, this looks like a perfect house for your active family! It must be a relief after all your worries about whether or not there would be life in Wisconsin. Congratulations on no longer working nights, too.

did you sell your colorado home? when did you have time to find such a great house, are you renting???
Congrats! You survived intern year and a big move. Best wishes for this new, exciting chapter of your lives!
Welcome to the hood. Come by anytime. After the road trip you just did the few hours to MPLs will be easy!
What a beautifull home, now the kids will have so much space to spend their energy, it is exciting to exploire the new town, and people, can’t wait to read more about your adventures.
Laurie and Travis,
I feel a huge sense of physical relief just knowing you’re done with the nightmare of long, late work hours and all the juggling with 4 wee ones. You deserve every ounce of the “honeymoon” and then some.
I know this sounds probably annoying and intrusive, but just PLEASE promise me that you’ll be careful with that hot tub. Three years ago, one of Sterling’s cousins had a 13-month-old that drowned in their new hot tub, which they thought was fully secured. Her mother turned from feeding the baby in her high chair so that she could change a diaper for another child (they also had 4 little ones at the time), and when she came back her world was forever altered. Anyway, this probably stupidly overprotective as I talk to two doctors here, but as I’ve followed their day-to-day experience (they also have a blog), I’ve been deeply affected by it.
Lots of love to both of you, and congratulations again!
Fantastic post and a fantastic house !!!!
Just checked in and saw you all made it! Great job. I love the house. I don’t know if you’re renting or buying, but either way it’s great and I love the landscaping! Hope everyone adjusts easily.
I might have snorted a bit reading about the road trip. Morgan and Shane would be great travel buddies. I cracked up on our recent flight to the E. coast to see Morgan in his car seat on the plane with a cup of apple juice and a cocktail straw and his earphones on watching Cars….happiest little guy alive while he’s traveling. His sister? Not so much!
