Jackie’s New-Do
Finley got her haircut last week and Jack decided he wanted “spikey hair,” but didn’t want it cut. So we got him some hair gel and he decided to play around with it today. First we put it on “purple bear,” his descriptively named teddy, and then on Jack. Here’s his phohawk (that was an intentional misspelling for my friend, Mark!) from today:
I got home from an interview trip last night and Jack told me he was really mad and really sad, and that he didn’t want me to be having fun on airplanes. I told him I really didn’t like going on airplanes without him, and that I understood why he would feel angry at me. I apologized a kazillion times, and explained that I was looking at another city we might move to and that I was off searching for the perfect school for him. That’s usually what I tell him when I go on interviews, and it seems to appease him slightly. Then he insisted I kiss Travis. After that, he initiated a big group hug, pulling Fin and Shane in too. It was sweet. He let me hold him for a long time, and forgave me. I told him I just have 1 more airplane to go on and then I’m all done traveling without him. I didn’t tell him that there are 2 days of interviews in that one last location:( I’m so ready to be done with interview season. 3 interviews to go, and then a waiting game until Match Week, which starts March 15th.

Love the new do! Pho sure!
The Gap does not know what they are missing!!!! OMG! He is soooo handsome, I can’t stand it. hehe Such a sweet story, I’m sure that this process has been hard on you all! Wishing you nothing but success and safe travels!! You guys can get through the last 3 interviews…fingers crossed for a Match!! Take care! Oh and btw…the hair do is groovy
LOVE LOVE LOVE this ‘do!!! It suits him so well!!! He’s so beautiful.
What a sweet boy to share so openly his feelings. It sounds so very healthy. You guys are handling the separations so well!
perfect hairstyle for Jack! He looks soooo cute. It would look even better with a nice bow in it:)
Loving the hair… looks like Kadens.. Bird man do! OO actually looks like mine too haha!
Oh, man, Jack looks GREAT with spikey hair! It’s really cool. His face looks more and more grown up every time you post pics. Ahhh, yes, I remember the interview trail. We dragged our 8 month old baby all over the country that month, it was horrible trying to navigate airplanes, rental cars, hotels, meals, a nursing baby, a pumping mommy and a disgruntled husband. All you can do is hope it was all worth it in the end! Here’s to almost being done!!!
so glad u are home safely and I miss talking to u.Jack looks older every time i see another picture .Shane and finley on the Pot are too cute for words.Love ya,Gia
LOVE the pho hawk. One of my students from Vietnam was just featured on the front page of the fashion section here with his “phohawk.”
The question about fate and bloom where you are planted, and making it work wherever you are, always confounds me. And I think that’s because I have always found a way to enjoy what’s around me - my guess Laurie, is that you and Trav will make it wherever you land.
that is one SWEET pho-hawk! Baby Gap is nuts to let this guy slip through their fingers
good luck on the last of the interviews. I know you’re ready to unpack and chill for a while!
Whoa, does that make him look handsome and grown-up! Definitely suits him!
Love the look! What a handsome boy!
He is such a handsome boy.
My sister’s bf has spiky hair and every time we see him Parker always wants spiky hair, too, for the next several days. So, I bought some hair molding wax and it works a charm. Looking good, J!
I think I will always think Jack is the most handsome kid aside from my own. The phohawk is way cool and the bow will fit into it nicely
All your kids are beauties, but for some reason, Jack has my heart (maybe because he’s closest to Woob?)
Jack is one of the cutest kids of all time. Love the hair. I know you are so ready to be done with all of the traveling away from your babies. Glad it is over soon! Your pics are looking great!
sorry if this is duplicate….love the style for Jack! Plus, fill me in on how you get Shane interested in potty. Trey is still no way. I am in Denver today. As I say every time I am here, I have to move back here!!!
Wow! he’s all round cuteness! the hairdo’s like a cherry on top (:
Super.Handsome.Son - but you already knew that!
Adorable new haircut - and he looks so pleased and proud!
Our son is also adopted from the Vung Tau orphanage. I have news about significant changes at the orphanage that I would like to share with you. Could you email me, so that that I can send you the information. Thanks!
Oh oh oh…can’t find your password. Can I have it again?
What qualifications does one need to get ‘the password’??? Does it count that I’ve followed your blog for a LONG time even if you don’t have a clue who I am ? LOL!!! No, really….LOVE your blog & have 3 kiddos myself from VN. LOVE following your career dreams as I find it amazing that you can DO all of this & have 3 kids!!! I can barely keep up at home!!! Well, if you decide I’m qualified my e-mail is jamesheather@aol.com THANKS!
I’m another one who used to have your password but lost it! We were going to adopt from Vietnam but we got pregnant and in Canada that means the end of adoption until baby is at least 1 year old! I have been following your blog ever for over 2 years and I am so invested in your life it is crazy! Thanks
The password has changed since my last attempt to sneak a peek at your days. Could I have the update? I have to echo Lisa’s investment. I greeted the protection with a verbal AGH!
Not to jump on the password bandwagon, but I would also love to get the password for your Match post. Like Heather M, you don’t know me, but I have been following your blog for at least two years and love it. You are the only people in the world that make me feel better about our crazy life. I only have 2 kids, very close in age and we had them both while I was in law school, so I have no idea how you guys manage 3. I am also going through interviews (for legal jobs) trying to figure out where we are going next. Anyway, regardless of the password, I love your blog and appreciate all the advice and sharing you do on here. If you are willing to pass along the password, I will be so pumped. Thanks…good luck at the interviews!
Laurie, I clicked over to your blog via a link from another I read regularly, and love reading about your medical career and your adorable family! I’d like to be able to follow the password protected posts so I can keep up! –Kristin
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Jack’s up do! I always thought I’d give Duc spikey hair at some point, but he actually looks better with a Beatles/Zac Efron ‘do.
I had to replace my computer today so I have NO old emails or PWs. So bummed that I didn’t back-up my email before my ‘puter crapped out. If you are sharing the PW, I’d love to have it again.
